Size classes
| Class | Good for | Stations | Maker price |
|---|---|---|---|
| About 300 Wh | Router, phones, lights, CPAP without humidifier | BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 | $289.99 |
| About 600 Wh | Router and lights overnight, a CPAP for two nights | Jackery 600 v2 (sold out Oct 19) | $499 |
| About 1,000 Wh | A fridge for a night, a workday | Jackery 1000 v2, Anker C1000 Gen 2 | $499–$599.99 |
| About 2,000 Wh | A fridge for a full day | Jackery 2000 v2, EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max Plus | $899–$1,199 |
| About 5,000 Wh | Home backup, 120/240 V, expandable | Anker SOLIX S5000 | $3,599.99 |
Example 1: overnight outage, 12 hours
| Device | Watts | Hours | Wh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fridge, US average | 70 W (EIA) | 12 | 840 |
| Modem and router | 11 W (NRDC, 2013: ~100 kWh/yr) | 12 | 132 |
| 4 LED bulbs | 4 × 8.5 W (Philips) | 5 | 170 |
| Total | 1,142 |
1,142 ÷ 0.85 = 1,344 Wh. The 2,000 Wh class, e.g. the Jackery 2000 v2 ($899).
Cheaper: run the fridge 8 of 12 hours, door shut (FoodSafety.gov). Need: 1,014 Wh, just inside the Jackery 1000 v2 ($499). Optimistic: a fridge works harder after time off.
Example 2: CPAP, two nights
AirSense 10: 7 W, or 22 W with humidifier (ResMed). 8 hours a night.
- With humidifier: 352 Wh for two nights, so 414 Wh: the 1,000 Wh class. The Elite 30 V2 lasts 7.9 h, short of one night.
- Without: the Elite 30 V2 covers about 1.9 nights; its own 9 W exceeds the CPAP’s 7 W.
ResMed’s guides also list rated figures: 53 W (AirSense 10) (guide), 56.1 W (AirSense 11) (guide). Use your machine’s figure and follow your doctor’s and the maker’s advice.
Example 3: home office day
Laptop 50 W (Virginia Tech) + router 11 W × 8 h = 488 Wh, so 574 Wh. A 1,000 Wh station: about 1.8–1.9 workdays.
Near the line? Buy a size up. Batteries fade, and cold stops charging.
