Solar generators

Solar generator kits: power station + panel pairs

A solar generator is a portable power station plus solar panels. Here are 10 pairs from ALLPOWERS, BLUETTI and EcoFlow: one station and one panel from the same maker, with sun hours to full and both prices, from the makers’ specs.

Sun hours = Wh ÷ (0.75 × panel watts, capped by the station’s solar input)

One pair for each of 10 stations

We list solar panels from ALLPOWERS, BLUETTI and EcoFlow, so stations from other brands aren’t here yet.

For each in-stock station with a same-maker panel in our list: the cheapest panel that refills it in 6 sun hours or less, preferring panels that come with the cable to connect them; if none is that quick, the panel that refills it fastest. Makers’ US store prices for each item, Oct 23; makers also sell their own bundles, sometimes at a different price. Photos: the makers.

How to size one

Size the station for your devices first: watts × hours ÷ 0.85, as in what size do I need. Then pick the panel for how fast you want it full. A bigger panel only helps up to the station’s solar input limit; the solar panels page shows every panel on every station from the same maker, and solar recharge time shows each station at its full solar input.

We match panels to stations on the makers’ voltage, current and watt limits. We don’t test panels.

Quick answers

What is a solar generator?

A portable power station used with solar panels. It has no engine and burns no fuel: the panels recharge the battery, and the station’s inverter powers your devices.

How long does a solar generator take to charge?

Station Wh ÷ (0.75 × the panel watts the station can take). Of the pairs here, the EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus with the EcoFlow NextGen 160W Portable Solar Panel is fastest, at about 2.4 sun hours by our math. Clouds, winter sun and heat add time.

Can I use another brand’s solar panel?

Often, if its open-circuit voltage fits the station’s solar input range and you have the right cable. The maker’s own panels are the simplest match, which is why every pair here is from one maker.
